It seems to us vacation is often associated with the summer or warmer months. We always see pictures of people lounging on the beach or viewing sunsets from their resort.
Winter vacations hold a special place in our hearts, though, particularly being from Minnesota, where the cold and the snow are frequent visitors.
Luckily for us, the small fishing village we reside in is located quite close to a number of winter things to do in Duluth and Knife River. We’ve listed some of our favorites for you below!
Located right in Duluth, this historic mansion is gorgeous all year round but has a special sparkle come the holiday season. You can go on tours that focus on the inside of the mansion or on different outbuildings all throughout the estate, but no matter what you decide, the halls will be decked through Jan. 7, 2018.
We’re proud to say that just a short drive from Island View Resort is the largest free walk-through lighting display at Bentleyville each year! That’s right, this attraction is totally free and absolutely beautiful. The walk takes about an hour to complete, so pack comfy shoes and visit before the festival ends on Dec. 26!
Perhaps the most comprehensive area attraction for the winter is Spirit Mountain. Whether you’re a skier, snowboarder, snowshoer, or a snow tuber, there’s plenty of fun for everyone. Luckily, Spirit Mountain will stay open well after the holidays are over, providing you fun all winter!
If you’re someone who loves the outdoors, a great way to explore Northern Minnesota is Day Tripper of Duluth, which are tours guided by experts through snowshoe, snowboarding, snow biking and more. You can even sign up for overnight trips with groups before heading back to your Island View Cabin for a winter cat nap!
The North Shore Ski Trail is one of our personal favorites when we’re itching to get out on a pair of cross country skis. There are over 150 kilometers of trails right near our resort that vary depending on the difficulty level you’re up for.
We love the winter attractions in Minnesota and can’t wait to see you try some of them out before returning back to your cabin for a delicious cup of hot cocoa this winter!
